The green and red of Mayo will be flying high in the City of Angels next July as two athletes from the county are to represent Team Ireland at the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles.

Film Mayo was delighted to have internationally renowned film director Pat O’Connor as its special guest for the launch of Film Mayo, which took place before Christmas. Pat has a very special relationship with Mayo since filming The Ballroom of Romance in Ballycroy in the early eighties. He has very fond memories of his time in Mayo, particularly the warmth of the people in Ballycroy. The reason that Pat agreed to be the special guest at the launch of Film Mayo was because of the affection he holds in his heart for Mayo. During his recent visit Pat talked of how shooting in Mayo was a very special time for him and one of the most fulfilling experiences that he has ever had film-making.

Everyone who grew up in the nineties remembers the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Turtles, like Pogs, were certainly part of my childhood. In the world we live in of remakes, reboots, and sequels I cannot believe it has taken this long for a new live action Ninja Turtles picture (there was a animated movie TMNT in 2007 that went straight to DVD). The original movies from the early 90s were massive successes, in fact when the first film came out in 1990 it was the second highest grossing indie movie of all time. Sadly these films have not aged well which leaves the franchise ripe for a reboot. Unfortunately for us, producer Michael Bay has got his hands on the project and if his treatment of the Transformers franchise is anything to go by this will not end well.
